EUROPE AND UK TOUR POSTPONED TO 2021

Hi everyone,
Due to recent developments involving travel bans and health advice regarding COVID-19 and the general state of the world right now we will unfortunately have to cancel our European & UK tour with Solkyri and re-book it for 2021. We also have a member of WLTS that is on immunosuppressant medication and is at a higher risk for infection and has been advised not to travel during this time. We can’t risk their health or anyone else’s and we would rather re-book the tour when the world is in a better place and everyone can enjoy to the fullest. We will keep you updated with future plans. Ticket transfers for the new dates & refunds will be handled via local promoters and we will update you with that information as well.

Thanks for your support as always.

Please be kind to each other and the planet.

2019 YEARLY WRAP

This year has been a really huge one for us. Actually this whole decade really changed all of our lives and changed WLTS as a band forever.

This year we managed to spend a week in the bush to record a new record, release album number four and tour it to China and around Australia. It’s been massive. It’s been fun. It’s been exhausting and challenging but overall pretty damn awesome. We also got to tour with our post heroes Russian Circles and Tangled Thoughts of Leaving.

We got on the soundtrack for Ricky Gervais’ After Life and got Twitter props from the big man himself. This still makes our head spin. We even got our own red wine and hot sauce! Really pushing those merch boundaries!

We finished the year with a bunch of shows around the country that ended up being probably one of our best Australian runs. All the shows were pretty electric especially Sydney and Melbourne. There was even a Taylor Swift club night disco load out in Perth which was something to behold. Thanks to everyone around the country who came out to support us and buy our merch. We couldn’t do it without you. We also started working with an awesome new lighting designer, Dutchy, and he’s brought a whole new element to our live shows.

All in all it’s been a solid year and the new album has been received pretty well considering the weight it was carrying from the last one. We even charted for the first time ever at #41 on the ARIA charts! Now is the time to reflect and work out how to make next year better along with our live shows and the next record. Yes, we’re already talking about album 5 and are keen to get into writing.

Next year will also be massive again with a huge European tour on the horizon and a couple of other things in the pipeline! We’re stoked to be apart of Dunk!Festival again and also excited to be venturing into the UK for the first time and playing at Portals Festival in London.

It’s also been a very tough end to the year for a lot of people in Australia due to unprecedented and catastrophic bushfires that have ravaged the country. There has been loss and tragedy mostly around the time of year when it’s meant to be for family. There have been some very dark days for some families affected by the fires and severe weather events. We’d like to keep them in our thoughts as we head into 2020. We also, thanks to some of you, managed to donate some money to the families of the two firefighters who lost their lives protecting their communities from the most violent fire fronts we’ve experienced.

We should move into 2020 as a united front of empathy and willingness to learn and understand more about each other and what is to come and try and navigate it together. Look out for one another.

Be kind to each other and the planet.

Much love from all of the WLTS crew and families.

Press Info
----------
WE LOST THE SEA are riding high on the release of their fourth album TRIUMPH & DISASTER. Debuting at #41 on the ARIA Charts & #1 on the 100% Independent Chart, the album follows their critically-acclaimed 2015 album DEPARTURE SONGS which featured the standout track A Gallant Gentleman (recently featured in the new Ricky Gervais series ‘Afterlife’).

The tour marks their return to Europe for the first time since 2017, as well as their first ever performances in the UK, as one of the headliners at Portals Festival in London. They will also play the main stage at Dunk Festival in Belgium and headline shows across Greece, Germany, France, Poland, Hungary & more.

TRIUMPH & DISASTER features the band’s powerful and emotional instrumentals across 7 epic tracks, including the lead singles Towers & A Beautiful Collapse.

SOLKYRI also return to Europe for their second tour, with their third album MOUNT PLEASANT due out in March 2020. Featuring the lead single Holding Pattern, the band continue to convey their pummeling, up-tempo & uplifting approach to post-rock with powerful drumming and dueling guitars. They return for the first time since 2015 when they toured in support of their popular second album SAD BOYS CLUB. Having shared the stage with acts as diverse as Mew, …Trail of Dead & sleepmakeswaves, the young quartet have earned a reputation for an energetic and engaging live show.

A TOUR WRAP

Melbourne rules so hard. You guys were electric last night and we feed directly off it. Holy shit what a show. Howler is such a sick venue, too thanks to all the staff last night. Everything was 💯 Couldn’t have asked for a better way to finish the tour and the year. Can we go back to tomorrow and do that again?
Much love to the beautiful people in Tangled Thoughts of Leaving we 🧡 you so much.

Sydney, that was next level. That was our best (and biggest) hometown show, ever. Thank you to every one of you for the huge show of love and support for us last night and over the whole year/last 10 years. What a vibe!

Thanks to @meniscusmusic and @solkyri for jumping in at the last minute and playing incredible sets. Also Jarrod for smashing out some old heavies with us. Hometown heroes united.

Huge thank you to @crowbarsyd for their hospitality and for Dave and Jake for their help and being legends.

Thanks to everyone who came out for our shows it really means a lot. Stay tuned for some big tour news for 2020.

BRISBANE AND SYDNEY UPDATES

Unfortunately due to a tragic family loss in the Tangled Thoughts of Leaving camp, they’ve had to pull out of this weekend’s shows. Thankfully some great bands have stepped up overnight and we’re super grateful for their help.

Both Meniscus and Solkyri haven’t played live for a little while and are keen to get back on stage, so we’re in for a bit of a fun time on Saturday night. It’s a big Sydney post-rock reunion!

And Kodiak Empire are going to be bringing us their crazy mix of prog and tech rock to the Brightside to help us fill the giant gap that Tangled have left.

ALBUM LAUNCH TOUR STARTS THIS WEEK

The time is upon us. We are wrapping up this huge year with a small Aussie run. You’ve probably seen it loads already but here we are to remind you again - we’ll be touring with our Western Australian family, Tangled Thoughts Of Leaving, which we are very excited about. Except in Adelaide where we’ll be joined by Bear The Mammoth from Melbs and Adelaide local, Keeskea.

It’s been another massive year and it feels like Triumph & Disaster has been out for ages in our minds, when really it’s only been out for about 6 weeks. We’ve had a cracking time touring China and are excited to get back on stage in Aus to bring you something new and old. Our last headlining tour was December 2017 when we played some TQPOE stuff, so it’s been a while. We’ve got about 80mins of music for you this time. Sydney, you have a bonus couple coming your way, too.

Tickets
FRI 22 NOV - THE BRIGHTSIDE, BRISBANE
SAT 23 NOV - CROWBAR, SYDNEY
THU 28 NOV - JIVE, ADELAIDE

TRIUMPH & DISASTER COMPLETE ARTWORKS

Introducing the complete artworks from the new album. Here is an in depth look at the ideas and themes that went into forming the story and art from Triumph & Disaster.

The artwork takes the form of an illustrated apocalyptic children's story about a mother and son's last day on Earth.

Hopefully this helps give some more context the music from the album and the themes surrounding it.

OUR OWN WINE

By the time you read this it will all be sold out but we’ve hit peak merch goals and we have our own limited edition wine thanks to Poets On Payday. We’ll be arranging another colab later in the year. For now, enjoy this photo of a light bodied sangiovese “A Beautiful Collapse”

A BEAUTIFUL COLLAPSE

The second track on the album, A Beautiful Collapse, picks up at the very end of our human story. When we’ve failed for too long, and chosen to ignore science and the planet’s own desperate cries, we’ve hit the tipping point. The view of the universe who watches back in on itself as we appear and disappear as a tiny blip on the cosmic radar. Or maybe it’s from the viewpoint of a particularly nonchalant omnipotent being who watches from afar with a morbid curiosity as the last death throes of humanity shudder one last time. Destruction as a form of creation. A Beautiful Collapse.

Triumph and Disaster is available for pre-order now.

The video for A Beautiful Collapse is really different for We Lost The Sea. I also think the song is quite different for us too, compared to our back catalogue. It seems to have ended up with us making a statement of some kind. It was the editor, Aidan's, first go at doing something like this and his influences are quite socially and politically based. It was interesting to see someone else's take on the theme for this song. It follows a loose narrative showing our colourful and safe past that then moves on to a bleak and violent future.

The use of archival footage to tell a story was a way of referencing our common past to talk about what we have or are leaving behind. Other people's stories stitched together to create a collective narrative about our history and possible future. Also it's free to use, so that helps!

The idea behind using quotes from writers and thinkers, most of whom are dead, ties back into that human story. It's like little flashes of truths told by great minds that we should learn from. Things that have already been said that already predict or sum up so many relevant and current elements. A collective story of us that runs along with the song that tells of a foreshadowing, a collapse. How beautiful the things we make that we leave behind.

Are we intentionally ignoring their beauty in order to feel ok about moving on? A swing set, a colourful front door, children's toys, books, decorative cutlery, machine engines, art or anything handmade. Look at what we've accomplished, it's utterly amazing when you think about it. Now look at it all fade "buried under the dust and crying in silence like the ghosts of history."

A BEAUTIFUL COLLAPSE - FRIDAY 16 AUGUST

Surprise! We are releasing a second single this Friday 16th August, ‘A Beautiful Collapse’ from our forthcoming record Triumph & Disaster. You can hear it ahead of time when it premieres on The Racket on Triple J tonight or stream it from the website after the show has aired.

TWO WEEKS SINCE TOWERS

Our new song ‘Towers’ is now out everywhere. It’s been two weeks since we dropped it so it’s time to post again just because. Also, here’s the official artwork for the track. The reaction to it and the album announcement has been amazing and really beyond what we expected. Thanks to everyone who’s pre-ordered something and for all the kind messages and comments.

It’s on every single streaming thing and YouTube and all that but buy it from us or one of our labels instead. Indie DIY all the way. Our labels are fiercely independent and rely on sales to survive as do we. Spotify makes millions of dollars instead.

Pre-orders are now available through our Bandcamp page.
