See you next week on tour!
Cheers, WLTS.

THE COMPLETE ARTWORKS FROM DEPARTURE SONGS

Introducing the extended and song artworks for Departure Songs & high quality prints.

You can view them here

Starting with the outer spread of the vinyl artwork, I created a piece of art for each song based on it’s theme and ultimately a complete set that relates to each other and the overall theme that amalgamates at the end with a montage of them all. Each piece has it’s own layered meaning and disguised imagery that is up to the viewer to explore. I wanted to capture the scope of these stories by creating epic landscapes that sometimes feel lonely and foreboding, yet visceral and full of movement.

PRINTS AVAILABLE
Giclée print/museum quality prints (high quality inkjet on uncoated 210gsm stock) of these are available at our Bandcamp - these are set up as a pre-order only at the moment. Depending on the amount of prints ordered, they could take up to 2-3 weeks from order before they are shipped. There will be some available at We Lost The Sea shows but not many. Besides the outside and inside spreads, all posters are A2

With the exception of the outside spread, all of the poster images below are mock ups, but represent closely, what the final product will look like.

Thanks for your support! Matt & WLTS

Sydney-based, cinematic post-metal six-piece We Lost the Sea return with their third full-length album, Departure Songs.

We Lost The Sea have faced considerable challenges in recording their third album, Departure Songs. Being their first release since the passing of their vocalist, Chris Torpy, the album is entirely instrumental, with a heavy focus on evocative composition and intelligently layered instrumentation.

The result is something to behold: with the help of engineer Tim Carr at 301 Studios (Matt Corby, Mere Women, Adrift for Days) We Lost The Sea have created an expansive, cinematic masterpiece that shifts between periods of delicate vulnerability and brooding introspection, to peaks of soaring triumph and tragic implosion.

The album is inspired by failed, yet epic and honourable journeys or events throughout history - moments when people have done extraordinary things for the greater good, and for the progress of the human race itself.

As guitarist Matt Harvey explains, “We’re exploring new ground and exploring ourselves in the past two and a bit years since our vocalist Chris went on his own journey. It’s slightly bleak with shimmers of hope and layers of many things. It’s a tribute and a catharsis of emotion and it’s also really honest.”

There is no denying that with Departure Songs, We Lost the Sea have placed themselves at the very forefront of intelligent, instrumental music. This is further solidified with their recent run of international supports, having proved themselves alongside heavyweights such as Boris, Earth, Pelican, and Jakob.

Departure Songs is a musical triumph; a perfectly formed artistic statement from a band who has always sought honest and cathartic self-expression. Fan of groups such as Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Mogwai, Sigur Ros and Cult of Luna should waste no time in exploring the incredible sonic depth of We Lost The Sea’s Departure Songs.

Departure Songs sees release through Bird’s Robe Records and Art As Catharsis on 23 July 2015. Their debut single, A Gallant Gentleman, is available now.

Announcing 'Departure Songs'

We're excited to announce our new record 'Departure Songs' that will be released in full on the 23rd of July. Here is a single and the opening track from the album called 'A Gallant Gentleman'.

https://welostthesea.bandcamp.com/track/a-gallant-gentleman

Departure Songs is inspired by failed, yet epic and honourable journeys or events throughout history where people have done extraordinary things for the greater good of those around them, and the progress of the human race itself. Each song has it’s own story and is a soundtrack to that story.

Recorded and produced by our friend and dad, the wizard Tim Carr. This is our 3rd album and our first instrumental album. We’re exploring new ground and exploring ourselves in the past 2 and a bit years since Chris went on his own journey. It’s slightly bleak with shimmers of hope and layers of emotion. It’s a tribute and a catharsis of emotion and honesty.

Pre-orders are available via Bandcamp
Full album available from July 23
Vinyl available in September.

Thanks for you support.

This Will Destroy You. Australian Tour. June 2015.

The amazing This Will Destroy You (Austin, TX) will be back here in June definitely destroying again. We played with these guys back in 2013 when we were going through some rough stuff. The show was awesome, and they we're super nice to us, so we're totally stoked to be asked to play on their tour, with thanks to Bird's Robe.

We'll be joined by hazards of swimming naked and Meniscus for some of the shows. The Sydney Hermann's Bar show looks especially immense with 6 bands playing. We'll be on early, so come down for some Sunday tunes from some amazing musicians. Bring ear plugs. It's also our first time in Adelaide for two years! See you there.

Boris in Newtown

We're playing the now sold out Boris show on Friday 29th of May at Newtown Social. To say we're excited is an understatement. The legendary enigma that is Boris have been around for close to 20 years continuously pushing the boundaries of modern heavy music in their own unique way that you could only expect from an eccentric Japanese band. Amazing musicians to behold. This will be an amazing and humbling night for us.

Our new record is getting closer, this is only our second show this year and we'll be playing new stuff from it. We must double our efforts. Hope you managed to get a ticket, this is a show you don't want to miss.

Recording. Done.

We spent the last week recording solid at 301 in Sydney with Tim 'The Wizard' Carr, and have to say, it's sounding huge. It's been an immense couple of years for us and great to finish that chapter in this way. It's the first time the band has recorded without vocals, and an interesting step we weren't sure how it would pay off, but it has, and we're stoked and proud of it and can't wait to share it. We also filmed some of it. Lot's to come.

WITH GRACE - LIVE AT THE SANDO

These are two live tracks from our set at the Sando supporting Rosetta and City of Ships in July 2012. Our good friend and sound guy, Mikey Taverner, managed to salvage them from a live recording we had done. These were the only 2 that could be saved. One is With Grace and the other is 3/4 of Balaclava Cold. It was a great show for us, in general, and the only decent live recording of With Grace we have. Good memories. Enjoy x

Review of our show with Jakob in December

We Lost The Sea were the absolute highlights of the night. A statement so bold wouldn’t generally come so early in a review, usually electing to lull the reader into some sort of suspense before finally reasoning that the support act ultimately trumped the headliner. Too bad. This band was really exciting. Post-rock bands probably hate being compared to others in their field, a criticism that’s hardly fair based on how intricate the arrangements are. We’ll go with this then: It started with crystal clean Explosions In The Sky guitars that grew – as the set did – into something entirely different. A beautiful audio snippet was a highlight, distorted just enough that you know what the person’s saying is important, but can’t make out the words.

This kind of restraint is what post-rock is all about. The band would build and build, beautiful cacophonies, the instruments sounding as if they were being amplified in the darkest cave. Nine times out of ten these intense builds would grow to the point where you could anticipate the second where shit got real. Then, suddenly, the song would trail off. It’s that one pounding moment, when they’ve finally made you think that they’re not that kind of band, that all hell breaks loose. When We Lost The Sea is firing on all cylinders the music is searing, hot to the touch.

Thank you

So our year has come to an end with 2 awesome shows with Jakob and The Seaport & The Airport. 2014 was a big year for us and it's been awesome. We've played some rad shows with great bands and nice people and made some new friends. Special thanks goes out to The Bird's Robe Collective, Life is Noise, Metropolis Touring, Art As Catharsis, Beatdisc Records, Manning Bar, Hermann's Bar, Tony Nguyen, Lochlan Watt, James atFrom the Pit, Lord Asgard at Adversary Studios and any other photographers that shot our mugs and put them online. Also like to thank all the bands we played with especially Fourteen Nights At Sea, Bear the Mammoth, Caspian,Maybeshewill and Jakob for being super nice to us. And of course our mates and girlfriends/wives for putting up with us, and all of you amazing people who supported us by buying our shit, coming to shows or being a mad social media clicker.

We've already got some bigger plans for next year, part of which includes a new album, and some exciting shows. We're going to take a step back over the next few months to finish writing, and will see you in a bit. Stay tuned for some big things in 2015. Thanks. Peace.
